...aaaaand she's back!

Well folks after nearly three years, two continents, seven countries, and a master's thesis, I'm happy to report that I've made it back to Los Angeles in one piece (more or less). I'm looking forward to sharing some of my favorite travel tips and tales - especially anything involving food - in the posts to come. 

Going, going...pt. 2

Yikes.

I just bought a one way plane ticket that will take me to New York on August 16.

I'm scared and sad and anxious and still not totally at ease with the fact that I'm about to move across the country and begin a new life as a grad student in Syracuse.

I am, however, very happy and excited about moving to Florence in January.  It's just getting through the rest of 2010 that I'm concerned about.

Going, going...

Now that it's beginning to sink in that I'll be leaving my beloved Highland Park next month, seeing things like this make me incredibly sentimental:

Sure, the sight of a singed trash bin undoubtedly signals a neighborhood that's probably seen better days.  But when I saw it sitting beside the curb on Figueroa the other day, I couldn't help but smile and because it's exactly the kind of thing that gives Highland Park so much zany character and colorful quirkiness.
